Songbirds is an all-female choir with a repertoire mostly consisting of pop songs and songs from the musicals. There are currently around 45 women in Songbirds who rehearse under the direction of Joanna Eames. We all have one thing in common: we love to sing for fun.
Songbirds is not an audition-based choir; we are open to all. We offer ideas for our own repertoire and Jo arranges new songs for us regularly. We arrange social events to get to know each other better and have fun outside of rehearsals.
Annually, Songbirds choose three charities to raise money for throughout the year. This is achieved through donations for performances, taking our charity buckets when we perform at public venues, and through our annual charity concert. Last year, our total was just over £3000.
Songbirds have performed in a wide range of venues locally and further afield, including The Hawth in Crawley, The Assembly Hall in Worthing, The Scoop in London and various venues on the Isle of Wight, where we have a summer ‘tour’. Last year, we organised our first large community concert at The Hawth, performing Zimbe! with other local choirs and the composer, Alexander L’Estrange.
2014 – “After many of our members enjoyed being part of the audience last year at The Hawth, we are thrilled to be performing in Choiroke for the first time!”
2016 – “We are thrilled to be returning to Choiroke in 2016 having enjoyed it so much at Dorking Halls two years ago”
