Founded by a small group of friends in 1992, Impromptu now boast more than 20 members drawn from a wide range of ages and occupations. The choir’s continued success is due to the friendships and strong teamwork that have evolved from our mutual love of singing.
We are a choir of mixed abilities – some sight-readers, others who learn by ear – and there is a great sense of camaraderie and mutual support within the group. We love to sing all styles of songs from medieval motets to contemporary pop.
In addition to performing in concerts, we love the challenge of choral competitions. We won the Manchester Amateur Choral Competition in November 2010, and were finalists in the Good Housekeeping magazine Choir of the Year competition, and we were proud to have two of our performances fro the competition broadcast on Radio 3 during the course of the year.
What the choir said in 2012:
“We were delighted to be invited by BRAVO to participate in the debut of Choiroke in Surrey. Their passion for sharing singing with others is inspirational and we are really looking forward to hearing and meeting the other choirs”.
