Brooklands Signing Choir from Brooklands Primary School in Reigate
The Brooklands Signing Choir was established in December 2013 after the success of our debut performance at the school Christmas play.
It is made up of 11 of our pupils aged between 5 and 11 years old; they are supported by several staff members.
Brooklands is a school for pupils with severe and complex needs including autism. We use Makaton signs to support and develop the pupils’ communication skills, both their comprehension and expression.
Since December 2013 we have performed at lots of school events such as shows and special assemblies as well as at several community events including a music festival and a fund raising ‘concert’ at Sainsbury’s in Redhill. We even performed in front of an OFSTED inspector and even at the wedding of one of the teachers!
We have also worked with pupils from another local school who came to Brooklands and learned a song with us which we then performed together at a special assembly.
Dressed in our ‘Signing Choir’ t-shirts we love to perform and to entertain others……even making people cry with tears of happiness!
We are excited to have been given this opportunity to perform at the Choiroke as this will be our biggest event yet!
